10 of the highest cities and towns in Idaho by elevation

Island Park sits at about 6,295 feet above sea level, the highest on this list, and every town on the list sits above 5,900 feet.

Island Park is the highest on this list. The towns that follow are not ranked against each other. A published elevation is a single point measured somewhere inside a town, and in mountain country the ground within one town's limits can vary by hundreds of feet — so a few feet of difference on paper does not tell you which town sits higher. They are listed alphabetically.

Methodology & sources

About this list. Incorporated cities and towns are municipalities recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau; census-designated places, townships, and unincorporated communities are not included. Each elevation is approximate: it is read at a single point chosen to represent the town — the town center itself wherever a town-center record can be matched, and a documented fallback point where none can be — rather than at the town's highest ground, using U.S. Geological Survey elevation data, so it can differ from the figure some other sources publish. Treat these as within-the-limits elevations, not a single canonical height. Where a candidate town's figures don't hold together well enough to stand behind, it's left out rather than the list padded — so some states run to fewer than ten.
